Hello, everyone.
For a long time, I thought life was simple: you just live the way you were taught, doing what you were “supposed” to do. Because of that rigid mindset, I was completely blind. I never truly saw what state my wife’s heart was in, or the deep loneliness she was enduring right beside me.
The past 12 years of our marriage were a relentless cycle of conflict. Faced with a reality that felt too heavy to bear no matter how hard I tried, I found myself constantly crashing into despair. I wanted to protect my family at all costs, but I could never seem to fulfill what my wife needed.
Eventually, I fell to my knees before her. “Honey, this is beyond my ability. I just can’t do this anymore,” I confessed. I had hit absolute rock bottom. Yet, a fractured relationship is not so easily mended.
“If only I had known all this before we got married, we could have been so much happier. I am so sorry.”
This is the regret that now tears at my heart every single day.
I see now how foolish it was to try and fill her cup using only my own methods, without ever truly looking at her heart. I didn’t know what real, mutual happiness looked like, nor did I know how to untangle the knots in our relationship. Because we didn’t understand why our definitions of marriage were different, or what form of love each of us desperately craved, we constantly missed each other.
We had never been taught the fundamental reasons why the values we chose to focus on were so fundamentally different. Consequently, we never learned how to find true happiness, nor how to build a home rooted in mutual respect.
💸 The Cost of Blind Effort
Looking back now, the 12 years that slipped through our fingers leave me feeling so incredibly heartbroken and upset.
When I think about the relentless effort I poured out in my own misguided way—convinced it was for her sake—and the sheer amount of money spent on things she never even wanted, it feels as though I’ve watched two entire houses burn to the ground.
I lost time, I lost money, but what cuts the deepest—what leaves me with the most agonizing regret—is the realization that through this entire process, my children and my family left deep, painful scars on one another. A heavy sigh escapes me whenever I ask myself, “Why did I have to live so foolishly?”
🌱 Welcome to ‘The New Life’
This painful awakening is exactly why I decided to name this blog ‘The New Life’, with the subtitle, ‘In Search of Real Happiness.’
I opened this space with a desperate hope: that no one else would have to go through the same bitter trial and error that I did. I built this for anyone who is looking to restart the most important relationships in their lives.
Through our encounters in this space, I genuinely pray that this becomes a journey where we can uncover, one step at a time, the path to the true happiness we so easily miss.
If you find yourself needing personal support or a place to guide your steps, I warmly invite you to share your story here with us. Let’s walk this path together.
If any part of my story resonates with your own journey, or if you are currently navigating a difficult season in your relationships, please feel free to leave a comment below. Let’s figure it out together.
